Yes, well, it's not quite field of dreams material when it comes to the football pitches in Mid Calder at the moment. Every kind of rain, allied to parks which have deep holes and or no drainage, has seen all the Mid Calder clubs ability to play home games, very badly affected. So much so, that all 7-a-side teams had agreed not to play at home during the opening half of the 08/09 season and the 11 a-sides are highly unlikely to be playing at the village park either, having not done so since last August 2008!
Discussions with the council are on-going. The club understands the council's situation, as they have a list as long as your arm of parks across West Lothian in dire need of similar attention. Our problem is that we only have 2 parks in Mid Calder and so do not have the luxury that other clubs have of a bigger choice when it comes to playing their games. The management committee realise that something has to be done and fairly soon and we have had discussions over the past few months with a view to taking this forward. With the club attracting more and more players (and therefore, more teams) the need to have a reasonable surface to play is of the utmost importance. |
