**1994s win the League Cup** PDF Print E-mail

Sunday 23rd May saw the 1994s take part in their 1st ever cup final and they came out on top, beating Bonnybridge Youth 2-0. The final was played at Stoneyburn Juniors ground and on searing hot day the 94s ended a long season, by bringing the silverware back to Mid Calder.

Our undercover reporter was there and brought us this report......

A fantastic and well deserved result, with Mid Calder beating Bonnybridge 2-0 to lift the League Cup.

Thanks to everyone who came down on a scorching day to support the team, it was much appreciated.

It wasn't the best football we have played this season but we made up with everyone giving 100% in difficult conditions - hot sun, brick hard pitch and fairly strong wind.

1st half with Bonnybridge playing with the wind they took the game to us but as a team we defended well with only one clear cut chance created from them when their forward went 1V1 but it luckily slipped just wide.

We didn't have many chances but as the half went on we came more into it and had a couple of opportunites in front of their goal.
Again Bonnybridge started the opening 10 minutes of the 2nd half stronger but again defensively we were very solid and organised with no mistakes.

The last 1/2 hour belonged to Mid Calder and you could see the belief the boys had as the game wore on.

We were creating a few decent chances from open play and looked dangerous at set pieces, and it was a free kick that resulted in the 1st goal (and a straight red for the Bonnybridge player) - Murray firing it in the top of the net from about 30 yards.

Bonnybridge tried to rally but never really troubled us, then with a couple of minutes to go our left back found himself in nose bleed territory six yards out and scored the clinching goal - what a moment for Gregor's 1st goal in 4 seasons at 11 asides.

All in a great day and night had by all*

*Reports of Mid Calder Coaches singing 'hey ho, let's go' at post party celebrations have been denied by the management.
